An orthopedic surgeon wanted to do surgery. The possibility of being paralyzed by the surgery was very real. Due to my advanced age of fifty, it was likely that I would not live through the surgery. The recovery period would take many months. I would not be able to work during this time, so there would be financial strain as well.

I had to wait five months for my first appointment with Dr. Howell. My family and friends thought putting balloons up my nose to straighten my back was a crazy idea. I had traveled across the country to see Dr. Howell. I was filled with hope and excitement. When I arrived at the office and saw the stairs leading up to it I almost cried. I have always had to pull myself up stairs. Anyone around thought I was having a heart attack by the time I reached the top. This has been very embarrassing.

Most of my pain occurs at night while lying down. I have not been able to sleep for longer than an hour without waking up in pain. I would have to get up and walk around to relieve the pain. For a long time I have been moody and quick to lose my temper from lack of sleep and too much pain.

I have been to Dr. Howell for five treatments, and with each visit I am in less pain. I can walk up the center of stairs without pulling myself up the railing. Can also sleep for up to four hours now without waking up. When I do wake up I am not in pain. My friends and family tell me I am much more pleasant to be around. I could have gone with surgery and bought my surgeon a new BMW, but instead I went to Dr. Howell and I’m making a down payment on a Chevy. This is the most powerful thing I have done for myself.
